This shade is more '90s' because it's darker and more brown, which, as I recall, was a shade very popular in the 90s. It is a rose toned brown that leans more brown than pink, but it's not overpowering. Whirl is described as a dirty rose shade, and I think that fits its description perfectly. Soar is described as a mid-tone pinkish brown, but I think it's more like a brown toned pink because I see more pink than brown.
